Lisa Duffield, Cornell University professor of genetics, has made an amazing breakthrough. She has discovered how to revitalize human cells, making the cloning of the dead possible. Lisa plans to test her theories with DNA from her recently deceased mentor, Jeff Wolf.
Lisa's husband and history professor, Tom, hated Wolf. Determined to sabotage his wife's experiment, Tom substitutes genetic material reputed to have come from King Richard the Lionheart.
Each believes they have succeeded -- both in deceiving the other as well as the surrogate mother, whom they have told the DNA came from commercial bio-stock. They're all wrong. By chance, coincidence, or destiny, Lisa's experiment clones someone else entirely.
When the identity of the cloned child becomes clear, Lisa and Tom find themselves racing to protect both the surrogate mother and the unborn baby. To do so, they will have to evade a frenzied media, the police, and an ambitious US Senator. Whether they fail or succeed, everything will change.

I'm a huge Dan Brown fan, so I found Tim Brown's (no relation) A Bolt from the Blue to be a similar suspenseful read. All the details were so well researched and thought out and the settings and locations around the Cornell campus were very accurate. This was sort of a cross between Digital Fortress and Inferno, with it's own intriguing twists and turns. I thought the characters and their relationships were nicely defined, so that the interpersonal relationships made the whole story seem very plausible.I found myself having a hard time putting my Kindle down. It feels like there's an opportunity for a sequel here....and I'm ready to read it.

A Bolt from the Blue edition by Timothy B Brown Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Love a good mystery and especially one with a super woman character! Yummy read.
This book is hard to put down! Characters you care about, fascinating twists that weave throughout the plot and a really creative premise! What's not to love? This book really met my expectations and more....beautifully blending science and history with relationships and life decisions. Looking forward to more from this author!
Compelling story. Couldn't put it down. A lot of detail, so you'll be tempted to rush through. Begs a sequel. 'Dan Brown meets Michael Crichton lite', and the next book, with the same style and new research, could be a real blockbuster.
Brilliant first book! You’ll learn more about genetics in A Bolt from the Blue than you will in a Genetics 101 course.
Detailed development of each character ranging from the petty and egomaniacal academics, secretive government officials, sensationalist journalists, billionaire philanthropist, all brilliantly mixed with the historic artifacts of the humanities and advanced developments in the biological sciences. The book weaves a community worth of David Lynch!
A great read! If you know a good producer who wants a terrific story for a mini-series or feature film, you should certainly pass this on. They will thank you for it!
I was unable to finish this, something that rarely happens to me. The writing was so poor that I simply did not feel like wasting my time after wading through page after page of descriptions of the Cornell campus. At the point I gave up, after a leisurely tour in which absolutely nothing happened, our heroine decided to have lunch. A considerable time is spent mulling over where to go. Another well-described tour through another part of the campus ensues. Our heroine forgets that she is famished, and stops into the chapel to pray. I gave up.
It seems as if Mr. Brown was being paid by the word.
Ok, you're still reading, so let me give you some non-spoiler information. First, a mild disclaimer I know the author. Secondly, a disclaimer-disclaimer -- I bought the book, have not been compensated in any way, and am not one to sugarcoat my reviews (just ask my brother). If I could, I would give this book 4.5 stars -- it's not perfect, but I enjoyed reading it, enjoy thinking about it, and enjoy talking about it with others who have read it. I'll be honest, it started a little slow for me -- I tend to read mysteries that start fast and stay fast -- but once I got used to the pace, I found myself quite immersed in the story. It builds slowly and finishes strong. I really like way it intertwines the study of medieval history with the study of modern genetics, and the characters and dialogue are believable and entertaining. What more do you need to know? Read the book!
This book gleefully treads the nexus between science, history and religion and reads like a Dan Brown thriller. The author successfully establishes credibility for his amazing premise by clearly outlining the two main characters, Lisa and Tom, grounding them in the 21st century as Cornell University Professors in Genetics and History. Through their quest to fulfill their marriage with the child they are unable to conceive, Lisa's powerful knowledge of her science and her determination to make right a horrible tragedy, combines with Tom's fascination with great figures in history to produce a truly transformational outcome.
You will laugh at the clever puns made from modern cliches and marvel at the scientific detail, and historical accuracy that bolster this fascinating tale and make it believable.
A great read for anyone interested in mystery, science, history and/or religion. It will leave you craving for a sequel!
