Deputy Dorie Berenger knew the day would go from bad to worse when she found a stoned alligator in the town drunk’s swimming pool. Then DEA agent Richard Starke shows up in Gator Bait, Louisiana, giving out orders and insults faster than you can cast a fishing line.

Dorie knows the residents of Gator Bait aren’t going to talk to a stranger, especially a Yankee, but she stuck with Richard until he catches his bad guy. With no other alternative to restore peace to the small town, Dorie agrees to help Richard catch a criminal and in the process, uncovers decades of secrets that have been hiding deep in the Louisiana bayou.

Rumble on the Bayou edition by Jana DeLeon Romance eBooks

While the story was good, I completely lost interest at the end when the other deputy snuck up on everyone while driving an airboat!. If you have ever heard one, you would know that they as loud as any racecar or jet engine. The characters would have heard it coming from MILES away in the swamp. Then the characters had a conversation on the return trip. This is not impossible since everyone wears ear muffs to protect their hearing due to the loud noise.

I'll just "blow out a breath". As another review said, this phrase was repeated dozens of times and became distracting until it became comical!

Overall it was a decent read but the issues above were too hard to overcome in order to give the book more than 3 stars.

Rumble on the Bayou edition by Jana DeLeon Romance eBooks Reviews

Jana DeLeon has a wicked sense of humor and is incredibly talented and an imaginative author. The characters are extremely well written and so much more than one dimensional. The story line is incredibly talented writing. The story takes on a life of itself and keeps you turning the pages wondering what will happen next. The mystery is well done, and its not obvious at all, and you will keep guessing until the end. The characters and the story line were so entertaining that I gave the book 5 stars. I was disappointed with the drawn out sex scenes, which I felt were a waste, and in her other stories the sex is a subtle hint that you can figure out, who I prefer. I'm not a prude, and have no problems with sex scenes. It's just not what I expect from a gifted author and hope she goes back to her subtle hints and leaves the sex scenes for that genre of books, or for less gifted writers that needs to write the sex scenes in to take up space and chapters.
A fun read with lots of twists and turns. The drunken alligator in the swimming pool seems like the beginning to a typical small town mystery. But the mystery broadens when "Dick" shows up. I enjoyed Dorie and her sense of humor though she comes across rather hardened for someone so young. And Dick certainly comes across as a dick. But over time, they both loosen up and begin to respect each other. Along the way Dorie starts uncovering pieces of her own past (who was her mother?) and about her father the sheriff and about the criminal that Dick has been chasing for years. And don't forget the alligator whisperer. Do alligators really listen?
Jana DeLeon is one of my very favorite authors and when I finished her last book I went looking for other books she had written. Rumble on the Bayou was written awhile back so I wasn't expecting it to be as good as her more current books boy, was I wrong! It wasn't as laugh out loud hilarious but it was filled with interesting characters and the plot was excellent. It was quite thrilling and I was in the edge of my seat several times. It was kinda spicy too, which was fun. I highly recommend this book.
Love the Fortune Mysteries, so thought I'd try this one. Good story and mostly well written, but I'm giving it 2 stars. In the last half of the book get ready for someone to "blow out a breath" on every other page. "He blew out a breath". "She blew out a breath". Irritating to say the least, and It really distracted from the story. How about a big sigh once in awhile.

Warning Graphic sexual content.

I'll wait for the next episode of the Fortune series.
Dorie Berenger, deputy in Gator Bait, knows that it is not going to be a good day when she is called to remove an alligator from Maylene's pool. The alligator has a backpack clamped between its jaws. When the 'gator seems to be knocked out, Dorie decides to pry its jaws open and release the backpack. However, the backpack was not the only thing in the alligator's maw, there was a human finger as well. The backpack contained heroin and money and the print from the finger did not return any matches but Dorie is certain someone from the DEA will arrive soon.

Jana Deleon has a great way of setting the scene and populating it with unforgettable characters. There are many twists to the story and a couple of romantic threads. It is impossible to be bored while reading this book. I would characterize this as a cozy mystery although there are some gory moments.
3 STARS

Rumble on the Bayou was good but not as funny or mystery as good as her other books. The characters were not as expected they had hidden secrets to them. They were also likable. There was a couple of love scene but easy to pass over if wanted to.

Deputy Dorie Berenger has two jobs. Besides being a deputy she is also a game warden who likes to fish on her day off. She lives on a boat.

DEA Agent Richard Starke has been chasing a drug dealer for 8 years. He does not want to be in Gator Bait. He does not want to work with the deputy. He is not impressed with her. He has always lived in the city.

The setting was Gator Bait, Louisiana. Which was rightly named. There were a lot of gators in the area.

Dorie is called out by a local because a gator was swimming in her swimming pool. He has a backpack in his mouth and other things. They are surprised to find drugs & money in it.

There was one scene that was gross to imagine. Lots of violence, and action.

I like Jana DeLeon's books and look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I kinda finished most of Jana’s books Mudbug series, Fortune series, Shaye Archer series and I was looking for more from this author I’ve come to love. So I decided to give Rumble a whirl. At first I was like well... then as the chapters progressed it kept picking up pace. Then I found myself very into the storyline and characters. I was going through a sad time with the loss of my beloved cat and this book helped take my mind off of the pain. So for that I am grateful.
Also, I don’t usually find myself into love/sex scenes, but I couldn’t help myself. They were steamy good. Either I am hormonal or out of action, but for whatever reason they were a fun distraction in the midst of the action. It is a light book which is what I was looking for, and Jana did not disappoint. Give Rumble a Read, it’s a ride you won’t regret!
